10 Spring 2020 Must-Reads

It's finally Spring 2020, and as new life springs up everywhere...so do new books! Check out the list below of the top 10 books coming out over the next few months to add to your Spring TBR. 

Such a Fun Age - Kiley Reid 

"Alix Chamberlain is a woman who gets what she wants and has made a living showing other women how to do the same. A mother to two small girls, she started out as a blogger and has quickly built herself into a confidence-driven brand. This book is next on my TBR, and I am so excited to finally get round to it. I love these books which are at once complex social commentary and yet compulsively readable.

Woman on the Edge - Samantha M. Bailey

"A moment on the platform changes two lives forever. But nothing is as it seems...

Thrillers are probably my favourite kind of books, and this one sounds very interesting - can't wait to pick it up. 

The Majesties - Tiffany Tsao

There's something so endlessly fascinating about family drama, and this book has been described as a cross between Crazy Rich Asians and Gone Girl - I couldn't think of anything better. 

In Five Years - Rebecca Serle

"When Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Cohan is asked this question at the most important interview of her career, she has a meticulously crafted answer at the ready. Later, after nailing her interview and accepting her boyfriend’s marriage proposal, Dannie goes to sleep knowing she is right on track to achieve her five-year plan.

After a very intense, shocking hour, Dannie wakes again, at the brink of midnight, back in 2020. She can’t shake what has happened. It certainly felt much more than merely a dream, but she isn’t the kind of person who believes in visions. That nonsense is only charming coming from free-spirited types, like her lifelong best friend, Bella. Determined to ignore the odd experience, she files it away in the back of her mind.

That is, until four-and-a-half years later, when by chance Dannie meets the very same man from her long-ago vision."

If you like romance novels, this might be an interesting twist on your typical kind of read. The sound of it reminds me of Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins-Reid which I read last year and really enjoyed - I'll be keeping an eye out for the reviews!

Please See Us - Caitlin Mullen

"Summer has come to Atlantic City but the boardwalk is empty of tourists, the casino lights have dimmed, and two Jane Does are laid out in the marshland behind the Sunset Motel, just west of town. Only one person even knows they’re there.

I love psychological thrillers - this one sounds extremely eerie and compelling. 

These Ghosts are Family - Maisy Card

"Stanford Solomon has a shocking, thirty-year-old secret. And it’s about to change the lives of everyone around him. Stanford Solomon is actually Abel Paisley, a man who faked his own death and stole the identity of his best friend.

And now, nearing the end of his life, Stanford is about to meet his firstborn daughter, Irene Paisley, a home health aide who has unwittingly shown up for her first day of work to tend to the father she thought was dead.

These Ghosts Are Family revolves around the consequences of Abel’s decision and tells the story of the Paisley family from colonial Jamaica to present day Harlem. There is Vera, whose widowhood forced her into the role of single mother. There are two daughters and a granddaughter who have never known they are related. And there are others, like the house boy who loved Vera, whose lives might have taken different courses if not for Abel Paisley’s actions."

This sounds so good - if you like character driven dramas, keep an eye out for this one. 

Undercover Bromance - Lyssa Kay Adams

"Liv Papandreas has a dream job as a sous chef at Nashville’s hottest restaurant. Too bad the celebrity chef owner is less than charming behind kitchen doors. After she catches him harassing a young hostess, she confronts him and gets fired. Liv vows revenge, but she’ll need assistance to take on the powerful chef.

Unfortunately, that means turning to Braden Mack. When Liv’s blackballed from the restaurant scene, the charismatic nightclub entrepreneur offers to help expose her ex-boss, but she is suspicious of his motives. He’ll need to call in reinforcements: the Bromance Book Club.

Inspired by the romantic suspense novel they’re reading, the book club assists Liv in setting up a sting operation to take down the chef. But they’re just as eager to help Mack figure out the way to Liv’s heart... even though she’s determined to squelch the sparks between them before she gets burned."

If you like fluffy, light-hearted and fun romance - this one's for you!

Behind Every Lie - Christina McDonald

"Eva Hansen wakes in the hospital after being struck by lightning and discovers her mother, Kat, has been murdered. Eva was found unconscious down the street. She can’t remember what happened but the police are highly suspicious of her.

Determined to clear her name, Eva heads from Seattle to London—Kat’s former home—for answers. But as she unravels her mother’s carefully held secrets, Eva soon realizes that someone doesn’t want her to know the truth. And with violent memories beginning to emerge, Eva doesn’t know who to trust. Least of all herself."

This book is told in alternating perspectives, which I think can work really well for a thriller (Gone Girl is the best example I can think of!) - hopefully this one is well executed, because the premise sounds intriguing. 

To Have and to Hoax - Martha Waters

"Five years ago, Lady Violet Grey and Lord James Audley met, fell in love, and got married. Four years ago, they had a fight to end all fights, and have barely spoken since.

Their once-passionate love match has been reduced to one of cold, detached politeness. But when Violet receives a letter that James has been thrown from his horse and rendered unconscious at their country estate, she races to be by his side—only to discover him alive and well at a tavern, and completely unaware of her concern. She’s outraged. He’s confused. And the distance between them has never been more apparent.

Wanting to teach her estranged husband a lesson, Violet decides to feign an illness of her own. James quickly sees through it, but he decides to play along in an ever-escalating game of manipulation, featuring actors masquerading as doctors, threats of Swiss sanitariums, faux mistresses—and a lot of flirtation between a husband and wife who might not hate each other as much as they thought. Will the two be able to overcome four years of hurt or will they continue to deny the spark between them?"

This sounds SO GOOD - I like historical fiction but I often find it a bit too heavy, but this one sounds so fun and light hearted that I can't wait to get hold of a copy. 

Follow Me To Ground - Sue Rainsford

"Ada and her father, touched by the power to heal illness, live on the edge of a village where they help sick locals—or “Cures”—by cracking open their damaged bodies or temporarily burying them in the reviving, dangerous Ground nearby. Ada, a being both more and less than human, is mostly uninterested in the Cures, until she meets a man named Samson. If you live inventive fantasies, this sounds like a book for you.
